Supermicro BIOS Update Procedure

Using a USB pendrive

To update the BIOS from a USB pendrive you must first download the latest BIOS revision from the Supermicro website. Please make sure to download the correct BIOS for your model of Motherboard. Once the latest BIOS has been downloaded from the Supermicro Website you can then copy the BIOS files on to the USB drive. The system must now be powered on and booted to the UEFI shell. This can be done by pressing the F11 key during system POST and then selecting the UEFI shell from the BOOT menu. Once in the UEFI shell please type the command “map” which will show a list of the drives currently seen by the UEFI shell. The USB drive will usually be displayed as “fs0”. Now navigate to the folder where you saved the BIOS files on the USB drive. You should then follow the instructions in the read me file of the BIOS to perform the update. Once the BIOS update is complete please power off the system and remove the AC power cord for 1 minute.

Using the IPMI web GUI

Please note this process requires an OOB license to be activated on the server

To update the BIOS from the IPMI web GUI you first need to login to your systems IPMI using a web browser. Once logged in to the IPMI web interface you should navigate to the “Maintenance” tab and then select the BIOS upgrade option. You will then be asked to select which BIOS you would like to upload to the system. Select the BIOS that you have downloaded from the Supermicro website and then click the upload button. The BIOS will now be updated. Once the BIOS update is complete please power off the system for 1 minute.
